Big Guns: When Cops Use Steroids

Some real, reporting for a change. ABC News did its own investigation on this one.
From New York City to Norman, Okla., police departments are investigating a growing number of incidents involving uniformed police officers who are using steroids to build beefy, muscular physiques....

But there is an even greater problem: violent, aggressive behavior, a common side effect of steroids, can contribute to police brutality — even murder.....

But the fact that violent mood swings can occur among police officers who carry a gun concerns many, including Goldberg. "It's very scary to me," he said....

This is not something new, police officers have been one of the greatest consumers of illegal steroids since the 1970s. They come in somewhere in between farm animals, athletes and high school students.

But from a practical point of view, I'd say it's one of the few jobs where steroids could be deemed a justifiable, if not a necessary, evil. Cops, especially in urban areas, need every advantage they can get.
