What I Want

The cry is often hear by critics of black conservatives that they have no ideas of their own. Well I have some ideas of my own. Here are a few.

1) I want the money people pay in rent to be tax deductible.

It will make housing more affordable for the people who are unable to purchase homes. It would also increase the rents people are able to pay, thus increasing the profitability of "moderate income" housing.

2) I want to eliminate all public housing by giving the apartments to the current residents as condos.

The conservatives get to eliminate a useless federal dept and state and local versions of it and the people who need the help get a real asset and a huge hand up into our ownership society.

3)I want descendants of slavery to get a lower tax rate lets say 10% lower at every level for the next 120 years as reparations for Jim Crow.

Re#1: Forget that. Cut the tax rate to a 10% tax rate. Make it require a supermajority to raise taxes, while it takes a simple majority to lower taxes. One exception: The declaration of war by congress will temporarily suspend the max tax rate for a max of 5 years.

Re#2: Giving does nothing. Allow reduced pricing to those who want to pay for them.

Re#3: Tax free for 120 years.

That's my plan.

It used to be that the money you spend to pay off your credit card bills, the interest paid on top of it, use to be tax deductible. Ronald Reagan took it away.

A little devil's advocate action:
#1. Doesn't mean that people could afford higher rents, it just means that they would get credit for what rent they had paid over the year.

#2. Would they have a condo association to maintain and monitor the grounds, common areas,health/safety issues, etc.? There is a large percentage of the population that "should not" own property. I don't say this lightly, but I've worked in the inner city a long time in housing and environmental health and I am convinced. If nothing else, check out a book by Howard Husock called "America's Trillion Dollar Housing Mistake." It's relatively short, very readable, and very applicable to what I've seen first hand.

#3. I seriously don't think that people want to be judged on the content of their character, but by the color of their skin. Race preferences do nothing but divide. If you want a truly equitable system that includes everyone as a contributor to this nation's evolution go with the national sales tax.
