Save the Oil Shale --- And Alaska Refuge Too
America has a huge amount of oil that is on federal land. The current administration is auctioning off that land and bargain basement prices much like the Clinton administration gave away rights to the wireless spectrum.
The administration is doing this for two reasons, one to pay off his friends in big oil but more importantly to extend the days of cheap oil. Oil is still very cheap. Much cheaper that a gallon of milk in NYC. If we tap these resources we will be able to extend the era of cheap oils another 5 to 20 years, but then for all extents an purposes the oil is gone.
This oil should be held in trust for future generations. If we hold on to it for another 50 to 75 years when oil is at $200/$400 barrel we could tap it then and use it to pay for social security and Medicare. Or we can save it for 200 years when oil will be at $1000 barrel. The point is this is a one time sale of a resource of our country. Lets sell at the top of the market not at the bottom. Its our money, lets save it for the future.
Its a shame that conservationist are not smart enough to use this very logical argument to stop the giveaway of federal land.
